Ratio likes to work on art and design problems. With Jasper Young, Ratio is currently at work on a graphic novel about alchemy. Ratio's strengths include digital art, illustration, and graphic design.
Ratio grew up in Westport, NY & Pleasantville, NY and lived for several years in Toronto. They are a graduate of Blyth Academy's Yorkville campus in Toronto. Ratio was homeschooled for several years during high school and has studied privately with Ted Cornell, Kasia Werner, and David Thomas-Train.
Ratio is the child of two science fiction editors (David Hartwell & Kathryn Cramer) and the grandchild of physicist and science fiction novelist John G. Cramer. Ratio spent much of their childhood around artists and writers attending science fiction conventions, where they became interested in graphic art. Ratio's work has been exhibited in various art shows in Westport.
Ratio's desire to become an artist was also inspired by spending time on Ted Cornell's Art Farm in Westport. And Ratio attended a workshop with author-illustrator Nick Bantock in Victoria, BC.
Ratio has traveled extensively in Europe's northern countries, and with Peter and Kathryn, did a Finnish language intensive with Irina Pravet in Helsinki. Ratio traveled with Jasper to Helsinki for another visit in 2022.
In Ted Cornell's production of The Birds at the Essex Theater Company, Ratio played a bird, which involved shattering a window with a bird puppet made out of a pickaxe every night.
